About Supervision
This supervision/consultation group exists to support professionals who support PDA families. Whether you are a mental health professional, a behavioural professional, an occupational therapist, or a physician/nurse, you are welcome here. Our next cohort will begin September 16, 2025 on Zoom, 1-3pm Eastern time. There will be a maximum of 8 participants, and the cohort will run for 8 weeks. Expect an accessible format, where participation may look different for everyone. Camera off and simply listening in? No problem. Burning questions you want to explore? Sounds good. You would rather use the text feature than turn your mic on? Works for me! Together, we will dive into resources, discuss what PDA support looks like, break down neurodiversity-affirming assessment and care plans, and talk about application to real life and therapy.
Meet Your Supervisor
I'm Meghan Maynard, your supervisor on this learning journey. In addition to being a registered psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and PhD candidate, I'm a neurodivergent parent raising neurodivergent kids with a PDA profile. After using every strategy I learned over my 20+ year career in children's mental health with my own family, I faced the realization that everything seemed to be escalating the issue in my own home, rather than helping. 5 years ago, I began to learn about PDA, first as a parent, then as a clinician. It made so much sense for understanding the children I was seeing in my practice. Kids who experienced frequent meltdowns, school refusal, and even refusal to leave the car to come into session (spoiler alert -- it was "can't" not "won't"). These parents tried everything!! Charts, incentives, consistent consequences, praise, schedules and routine (and much, much more). I learned what tools support PDA'ers and which ones don't. Moreover, I tried these tools out in my own home and in my own parenting. I learned first-hand and through my clients and my life about the support that is needed. In practice, I adopt a neurodiversity-affirming lens to support families. This means non-pathologizing and being focused on the lived experiences of those I support. I'm grounded in trauma-informed care, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and neurobiologically informed interventions. I meet the criteria set out by CRPO for clinical supervision. Questions? Wondering if we are a fit? Send me an email, let's chat. [email protected]
Register to Access a Free PDA Resource Library
I've put together some of my favourite resources for mental health professionals that pertain to PDA. This includes peer-reviewed journals, books for families, books for therapists, websites, and social media creators. Feel free to take a peek, and begin to explore a PDA-informed approach to mental health care. There are lots of PDA resources out there. These reflect some of my favourites, please accept them as a starting point for learning about PDA. Even if now isn't the right time for you to join our live, zoom, supervision group, click sign-up to access the resources (I promise it won't commit you to the supervision group-- just grant you access to the resource library). I might email you from time to time to let you know about upcoming supervision groups and professional development opportunities, but you can unsubscribe at any time.
