Neurodiversity doesn't mean Autism or ADHD

It’s a broader, sociological concept about natural variations in human brains.

Neurodiversity-Affirming is a change of lenses

Adopting a neurodiversity-affirming lens can mean re-writing how you assess, set goals, and plan interventions.

Most training isn't based in neuro-affirming practice

You may have been trained to focus on mitigating deficits or to promote strategies that unintentionally elevate your client's stress and/or self-criticism.

About Supervision

Did you know: Neurodiversity isn’t the same as autism or ADHD — it’s a broader concept about natural variations in human brains. Adopting a neurodiversity-affirming lens can mean re-writing how you assess, set goals, and plan interventions. Without that lens, even well-meaning professionals can unintentionally reinforce harm. If you’re ready to dig deeper — to move beyond buzzwords and into real, affirming practice — join us for an 8-week closed supervision group introducing neurodiversity-affirming practice in mental health care. Together we’ll: Disentangle neurodiversity, neurodivergence, and the social model of disability. Examine the ways that traditional models of intervention may be ineffective, or worse, harmful for neurodivergent clients. Examine our assumptions and blind spots Explore practical, affirming approaches Consult on real client cases Build skills you can apply right away This supervision group is designed for: Mental health professionals at any stage of their career or training who want to better understand the neurodiversity paradigm. Professionals who are ready to adopt new perspectives for understanding mental health and behaviour. Professionals who are curious about neurodiversity-affirming practice but haven't had a chance to really dive into what it truly means. Why it Matters: Whether you recognize it or not, you support neurodivergent individuals every day. Research shows that about 63% of adults seeking mental healthcare may have a neurodevelopmental disability. You may have been trained to focus on mitigating deficits or to promote strategies that unintentionally elevate your client's stress and/or self-criticism. You really want to honour your client's experiences, goals, and help them to decrease their pain in meaningful ways. This 8-week virtual, closed, supervision group, brings together up to 8 professionals who are curious and ready to learn about adopting neurodiversity-affirming practices in mental healthcare.  Format: Live, virtual, encompassing guided study, discussion, self-reflection, and case discussion. Next cohort begins September 16, 2025, 9:30-11:30 Eastern Time Cost: $80/session Contact: [email protected] to register

Your Supervisor

Hi, I'm Meghan Maynard. I am a PhD candidate, a registered psychotherapist, a clinical supervisor, a mother, and a human.  I have over 20 years of experience in children's mental health. I am multiply neurodivergent, raising multiply neurodivergent children. In practice, I draw from attachment-based approaches, trauma-informed practice, and neurobiologically-grounded interventions. I would describe myself as anti-oppressive, justice oriented, feminist, and person-centred. If that sounds like a fit for you, let's work together!
